In 1957 the Coasters sang a song called “Searchin.” “Searchin’ just like the northwest Mounties, every week away.”
Becky and I listened to a TV preacher, who I’ll call JO, who said we need to do the same in regard to God. If you have burdens, guilt and baggage from the past that you are still carrying around today, God isn’t there. God is in the future waiting for you with blessings untold. However, to gain that future you must get rid of that baggage that is holding you back. God apparently wasn’t in your past either when these hurts etc. occurred. No, God is in the future.
Thus, pastor JO feeds his flock on noxious weeds. The Old Testament lesson from last Sunday was Ezekiel 34. There Ezekiel shares what God actually does, “Behold, I (God) I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered…I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, I will strengthen the weak…”
As the Coasters sang, “I’m searchin.” But scripture teaches that in the case of you and me, it’s God who does the searchin’. God lifts our burdens and places them at the foot of the cross.
